First trout of the season

Photographs (3) Iris Tantow

Bright, sunny conditions, but still cold north-easterly winds. How did people in them olden days keep warm in their castles?

At the Termon River near Burns Castle, Pettigo, Co. Donegal.

A bit of swearing! Amazing how annoying it is, to get caught up in the gorse.

But thank God I caught the first trout of the season. No swearing there.

First day of the trout season

Photographs (4) Iris Tantow

First day of the trout season, and I was so excited that shaving became a minor catastrophe.

After the bleeding was under control, we decided to have a look at Lough - and River Derg, Co. Donegal.

There was a cold wind blowing down from the north, so we drove on to the more sheltered Termon River.

But the trout did not cooperate at all. NO FISH!!

Instead of having succulent wild brownies for dinner, we had to make do with chicken soup.
