Plenty of Salmon in the Owenea
Perfect conditions in the Owenea. We see plenty of Salmon, a good flood going, but we can't catch a fish.
Otmar Butz giving his damndest to catch a fish, but it was not meant to be.
Salmon from the Owenea
Great water in the Owenea. Ray and me fishing the lower reaches of this splendid Donegal River.
Ray has one just above the "Little Footbridge".
Not a very big one, but it produces a smile nevertheless.
Mine is not much bigger, but at least we have a wee fish to eat.
At the Owenea towards Ardara.
Salmon run the Owenea
Monbrecia bloom: time for salmon. Today a good few came up the Owenea.
Otmar Butz is into one pretty soon, though they are not too keen on our flies.
Obviously a seal has attacked this one.
Otmar puts the fish back, but is happy nevertheless, because we see so many salmon.
Not just in the water. This one took the Shrimp Fly.
Heavy grey clouds are around us all day, only to lift a bit towards evening.
More Tales from the Owenea
The Owenea has water and looks perfect.
We can see a lot of fish but only this one takes the fly, the Masquerade.
The banks are pretty much overgrown and to land a fish here is not easy. Maybe the Fisheries Board gets the hint and does something about it. I'm talking about Beat 7.
A Salmon for Otmar Butz
Again lots of water in the Owenea. The usual thing in Donegal: once it has started to rain, it never stops.
That's the stuff the salmon angler wants. Otmar Butz plays a nice fish at "The Tagh".
Fresh up from the sea. The salmon season gets some shape now, after a very slow start.
My first Salmon of the Season
Whilst Ray is chewing up a cast, I hook my first salmon of the season and the day with the very first cast. Lucky me, or is it just the skill?
The fish took a Masquerade and is not that easy to land in the "Crooked Hole", one of the many well known pools of the Owenea.
There we have it.
There is one jumping at the "Yellow Banks" and just a bit further down I'm into my second one.
Again on the Masquerade.
Not as big as the first one, but I am a happy man all the same.
You don't go home with two salmon every day.

Ray does it again
Great feller this Ray Robinson and the fish isn't bad either.
That's where it came from. The Owenea and again, it took a Bibio.
On the Bibio
Ray Robinson does it again. He caught two nice salmon on the Bibio. Where? Owenea.

The day the rain came
An evening at the picknick-table, Owenea, Co. Donegal. After the rain there was a good bit of water in the river and it looked perfect. But there wasn't a fish in sight.
Ray Robinson and Otmar Butz hope to catch a salmon soon, because the forecast is pretty good. More rain to come.
More Rain; Perfect Water in the Owenea
It rained all night and we found the Owenea in perfect nick.
This is just below the Gubbin near Glenties, Co. Donegal.
Since we haven't caught a fish yet again, there was only one thing to do.
